This is an 11″ Genuine 2 Fuller Afghan Issue Khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by many people outside Nepal). This Afghanistan Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) khukuri is an authentic military khukuri used by the Gurkha soldiers of the British Army who were sent to Afghanistan. It is one of the newly launched military khukuri designs of the Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. This khukuri was famous among the Gurkha soldiers during the Afghan war. The British Army had deployed soldiers from its Gurkha Regiment since the war started for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
It is about 16″ overall in length (tip to pommel) where the blade is 11-inch long and the handle is 5-inch long. The blade is semi-polished and made from 5160 carbon steel which has double layers or fuller (Chirra). We have done a balanced oil quenching temper on the edge which makes it very strong.
The khukuri has a full tang handle where the blade runs through the handle making it super strong. We have also extended the tang to add a lanyard hole to facilitate a wrist cord. The handle is about 5″ long from guard to pommel. The Handle shape is different from other khukuris and has a finger grip. The scabbard is made out of cottonwood wrapped in brown-colored natural water buffalo leather. The scabbard has a leather loop with a fasten-up style with two frogs. A leather string is also made at the tip of the scabbard. The person carrying it can use this loop to tie the scabbard to his thigh to prevent it from moving & shaking while he moves or walks. This also reduces any noise that may be caused by a moving khukuri and thus helps to keep the soldier or a hunter’s stealth during military operations or hunting respectively.
This khukuri has two pockets on the back of the scabbard one of which holds a blunt steel called “chakmak” used for sharpening the blade and for creating a spark with a flint and the other one holds a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals, cutting fruits and opening cans.
Besides carrying this 11″ Genuine 2 Fuller Afghan Issue Khukuri in military combat and training, it can be used to chop wood or bone and clear bushes. You can also use this khukuri as a survival knife outdoors.
